This kit contains all the yarn that you will need to knit the ‘Heathland Cap’. More than enough yarn is included for the project, if you keep to the recommended gauge and needle size.

Designed by Norah at Fox and Folk, this beautiful hat is the 4th pattern in the ‘Secret of Roan Irish collection.‘ Designed to bring the heath landscapes to a cosy and classic knitted piece, the pattern features images of bracken fern and the tiny flowers of the gorse plant, accented with the mild pinks of the heath plant itself.

The pattern is sized for childrens medium, through to adult large.

It’s knit up in fingering weight yarn on size US4/3.5mm needles.

The hat is constructed bottom up, and features a two colour corrugated rib brim. The design features four colours, but only two colours are used at the same time, making it a simpler piece for those newer to colourwork. Additionally, floats are kept short throughout the design. The longest floats being five stitches is only used in one round of the entire hat.

My Shetland yarn is sourced directly from the Shetland Isles. The wool has a lovely crimp which provides a lot of elasticity. In addition, being woollen spun, the resultant yarn is lofty and light weight, thus providing the wearer with excellent insulation on a cold winters day!

Care: Handwash in luke warm water using a wool wash such as Eucalan, or a similar no rinse solution. Gently squeeze out excess water in a towel and lay flat to air dry.
